I have been asked countless times “how do I clean my makeup brushes properly?” This is an age old question and really there is not a wrong or right answer. I say if you are attempting to keep your brushes clean once a week–that is a great step in the right direction! You can use gentle soaps or baby shampoos, hair conditioner, and M.A.C. brush cleaner is also very popular.
- Japonesque Professional Brush Cleaner. It has a mild citrus smell and will clean all makeup, disinfect and conditions the hair of the brush as well. Just spray it on the brush and wipe clean with a towel or paper towel. The best part…the makeup brush is completely dry after you are done! It is perfect, especially when you don’t have the time to wait for your brushes to dry.
- Vinegar and Water: Use 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar, dip your brushes in the mixtures and rinse clean in warm water. This will disinfect your brushes so if multiple people use them, this is a great option over a brush cleaner.
- Mild Soap or Shampoo: Gently run your make-up brushes under lukewarm water. Next, add a small amount of shampoo or soap to the palm of your hand. Lather the makeup brush thoroughly. Then rinse with water again. Carefully wring out the water and soap from the brush’s tip to keep its shape. Lastly, place the brushes on a clean towel so they can dry flat. Easy!
One of the greatest benefits to keeping your brushes clean is softness! Did you know that makeup buildup, especially foundation, makes your brushes feel scratchy and harsh? If you have sensitive skin, cleaning your brushes regularly will help them stay soft and lush! Your skin will thank you in the long run!
Keeping your brushes in good condition by washing frequently will provide you with years of great makeup applications. It only takes a few minutes out of your week– the results keep up your great investment! Happy cleaning!
